SOCCER

* Valley Park students can learn the basics of soccer or build on their skills to improve their game by attending one of two soccer camps offered this summer. The one-week program will be held on the district campus, July 14-18. The two camps are organized by grade level. The Boys' and Girls' Rookie Kickers Camp (for students entering grades 1-4) introduces players to the basics of the sport, thereby preparing them for league play. It provides individual and group instruction. Throughout the week, participants learn soccer skills through drills and with games and contests. Campers will meet 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. daily. The Boys' and Girls' Intermediate Camp (for students entering grades 5-8 and/or grades 9-12 who want more fundamentals' practice) is designed to enhance and build skills. Both the experienced league player and the beginner will benefit from the drills, as well as from individual and team competitions. The Camp will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. each day. Costs are $35 to $45 and are due at the time of registration. Each participant will receive a camp shirt. Both camps will be conducted by head boys soccer coach Jason Karstens, with the assistance of coaching staff and former team players.
